careful what you ask for!
Everyone has been asking for 311 to go back to the rap rock, and what'd the do on UP? They went back to the rap rock. And everyone is bitching!
Now I'm not saying its the best 311 album ever but you cant deny it has many throwbacks to the old stuff, from Omaha sessions to Soundsystem.
Personally I would like them to go the space-rock trippy jam band route, like most true fans want. But so many people have been asking for the rap-rock to come back, and thats about 90% of UP. I guess they're (or we are?) getting too old for it now..

Come on....it's not near 90% rap. When it is rap, it's slowed down, kinda corny and not nearly as funky as they are capable of.

Rock On's chorus makes me feel like bouncing to the moon. Sounds very commerical rap-ish, but I liahk.flyersfan900 wrote:the raps are pretty slow, especially rock on

But seriously, 311 has a shit ton of raps that are amazing and contain no corn. Especially SA.

calling a song written by a 21 year old on basically his first album unpolished and demo-like =/= "hating"
it's funny to see that he's going back to rapping the way he did at 21 after 20 years in the music business though
@saladeater i was talking about dick sexum not sa

SA's vague neo-hippie conceptual raps are 'deep' to like 12 year olds. Bliddy bladdy aliens and the cosmic consciousness. Seriously, fuck off, SA.SoundSalad wrote:No way. Fuck you, then why do you even like 311? Thats what they are/were all about and what made them great. Dumbass.Shiny wrote: SA's vague neo-hippie conceptual raps are 'deep' to like 12 year olds. Bliddy bladdy aliens and the cosmic consciousness. Seriously, fuck off, SA.

my buddy was bashing the album - then went on to say that daisy cutter was one of 5 good songs they have written in the last 10 years... jesus
i will write a review once i let it sink in - the way the leak dribbled out makes it really hard to feel it as a whole album.
I also think people place to much gravity on the "ALBUM" - they said the songs are written to fuel the shows - as they should be. I bet people would have a much different take on the album if they called it an EP, or released it as 2- 4track EPs, or something like that. like the ETSD EPs - you don't place as much gravity on the songs because they are B-Sides, so you just take them as they are and don't think about them too much. imagine if there was a song on slo-mo on an album. people would tear that shit apart - but as a b-side, firewater slomo is fine.
the pity party party of one line is really hard to stomach - also that "pen and a pad and i trounce" line - the lyric negates itself, because with a line like that, he clearly does not trounce with a pen and a pad...

If Firewater slomo was release on UP, it would be one of the best on the CD.
