Alright guys, here's my dilemna. i'm warning you ahead of time, its a bit long, and i could really use some advice

alright, i met this girl the other day at this chill and grill for the homecoming basketball game. My fraternity is getting charterd on the 24th of the month, and I needed to find a date. Through a friend I met her, and I asked her to go with me to the ceremony. Since that time I've seen her once or twice at parties, and I'm really interested in her.

Should I take her out on a "real" date, or go out to lunch. I wanna get to know her, but I'm not sure if taking her out to dinner at a somewhat fancy place is too sudden. What should I do?

Girls I could also use some great ideas for date ideas.

I know i sound like a n00b, but its been a while since i had a girlfriend, and when i did have one, it was much easier. Thanks

lunch then date. do something most people won't do, like breakfast or something. my first date with my fiancee was breakfast cause that was the only free time i had. it worked obviously

The pro with a lunch date is that if during the date you feel things aren't looking to good, at the end of your meal you can say something like, " I had a really good time, but I've got to get to_________. I can't wait for our chartering. I'll call you later." Then you can peace out, and it still seems reasonable and not awkward, because most people acutally have stuff to do in the afternoon; errands, studying, work, family functions, etc. I hope you get the idea. However, if things are going great, ask her to go on a walk or something after you meal, or ask her to go some place quiet and interesting like a museum or your local botanical gardens. Unlike sitting through a movie or a concert with her, going on a walk with her, or to a museum or garden, will give you further opportunity to talk to her, resulting in the two of you getting to know each other better, resulting in her getting more and more comfortable around you, resulting in the ultimate goal. And it won't be the typical, same old date that the other guys have taken her on, which will definately earn you bonus points early on. I would try to take her out atleast once maybe twice before your social fuction. It will definately tell her that your interested, and that she's not just the flavor of the week for your fraternity event.

haha, despite all the great replies, i think im gonna stick to dumpster dave's plan to just take her out to lunch.

Things are going pretty well, for example I talked with her on AIM for about a good hour and a half about stuff in general, where we're from, all that jazz. So I think she's definitely interested. And this was 2 in the morning! I mean she gave me her number literally the second time i met her, and last night she reaffirmed that she wants to call me whenever I'm up for something.

Hopefully lunch tomorrow will help to fuse things together. And im thinking of just taking her out sometime next week. A friend of mine told me a great place is the mall. The mall here has really nice restaurants. She is a fashion major, so my friend was saaying pull the "hey lets go shopping, since i do need stuff." card. Anyone ever have this work for them?

that sounds like it would be fun ... you guys should see if you can get like a dozen little samples and keep half secret from eachother and then taste test them on eachother and try to figure out what the flavors are ...

but hell yeah, a smoothie cafe sounds awesome, relaxed, colorful, fun and from what you've said already, good conversation ... ... and hey, the best part is that if you guys are having a really great time sipping on smoothies and just chatting away you can stay as long as you want and if not, you can book it to a park or something or drive around random places.

for girls, well for me at least it doesn't really matter where i'm taken as long as the presentation is nice ..... i mena you can't take me to a dumpster painted pink .. but a smoothie cafe can hold just as many memories as a really nice resturant or an expensive night out .... usually casual, lo tech, and cheep is great for first dates, especially if you already have good conversations with the person .........

also, like dave said, if things don't really work out as planned you can just end it at the cafe and bounce. ...

Bottom Line: Good choice for a casual get to know you date.

well, she ended up canceling on me last night because of work today and all this other shit, so she said she's gonna set it up herself she sad, which works too i suppose. so we'll see.

i know what panera is, but its way to far off campus, i want it to be within walking distance as well from campus.

alright guys, thought I'd update you all on how things are going with this girl.

Well we never arranged a lunch/dinner date before my chartering ceremony, but last night was amazing. I ended up taking her there around 6:30 and we talked for like an hour and half during dinner. We ended up dancing for most of the night, and I left with her later on in the evening to hang out with some of her friends when she got into a fight with her sorority sister. As the night went on she got more comfortable around me and we talked about just general stuff outside of her sorority house. Towards the end of hte night i ended up taking off and she asked me to call her today.

Well today I called her, and we just talked and just shot the shit. Before I hung up I asked her if she wanted to get coffee sometime, but now she wants to do dinner. So I'm gonna try to set this up now sometime this week. Things are going amazing. Can't fucking believe it.
