Sweet, thanks!
Re: Writer's Block Party
Omg this is amazing. Just got twice as excited for this collection...assuming there will be at least a couple more unheard ones that are this great!

Re: Writer's Block Party
i think the from chaos demos are revealing. i wouldn't have expected that nick's vocal performances would be so polished before they started principal tracking. it makes me wonder if that's why his parts often end up sounding stiff on the album - there's no space for spontaneous magic in the booth.
the drum parts (i'd say chad's, but i'm not sure who's playing/programming some of these - could very well be nick) also seem to get less interesting. i'll be here a while is a great example: lots of unfocused but cool drum parts in the demo that are nowhere on the final.
overall, it seems like the studio makes 311 less weird and less like their live selves. they sound better when everything isn't compressed to hell and super polished. i'd love to see them approach the sound of an album like the champagne demo: open, weirdly eerie, live sounding.

Re: Writer's Block Party
THANK YOU FOR THIS ONE!!!
My intuition about this specific song being good was correct.

Certainly explains how the cirrus breakbeat remix got a good start. Wouldn't be surprised is nick gave him/them the demo to work with

Re: Writer's Block Party
it's funny to me that many of nick's demos have hacky live drums (stealing happy hours, ibha) and so many of chad's have cheez midi drums (color, speak easy).dj3stripes wrote:eam___ wrote:the drum parts (i'd say chad's, but i'm not sure who's playing/programming some of these - could very well be nick) also seem to get less interesting. i'll be here a while is a great example: lots of unfocused but cool drum parts in the demo that are nowhere on the final.
