If you think Uplifter is better than Universal Pulse
Then you're a complete retard.
I tried listening to Uplifter today, and I couldn't even get halfway through the first track without putting some other 311 on. After hearing UP, Uplifter just sounds really weak and forced. Maybe my feelings about UP will change in a year or two once all whopping 8 tracks of it get old to me, but as many others have said, UP was definitely a step in the right direction. If only 8 tracks means we don't have to have filler songs like "Hey You", "It's Alright", "Daisy Cutter", and "My Heart Sings" to sift through then I say keep the short albums coming.

Call me strange, but am I one of the few people who actually enjoys Uplifter?
There are a few songs I can do without, but I still know the lyrics to the entire album. As I have stated in other threads, I am not critical of every song and I just try and enjoy my favorite band's music.

I thought "It's Alright" and "Daisy Cutter" were two of the better songs on Uplifter.

I usually skip "Mix it Up" and "Something Out of Nothing"
Re: If you think Uplifter is better than Universal Pulse
On Uplifter I liked:
India Ink
Too Much Too Fast
Jackpot
Get Down
On Universal Pulse I liked:
Sunset in July
Rock On (sort of)

"Something Out of Nothing" has a good solo section and a catchy chorus IMHO.
I agree about "Mix it Up", though. The lyrics in that song are pretty rough.
I could never stand "India Ink" either. "Too Much Too Fast" though? I love that song!
Re: If you think Uplifter is better than Universal Pulse
the problem with uplifter is the horrible choruses. there are so many "good" parts and then nick starts singing and the song is fucked. like never ending summer, one of the heaviest solo's by tim in a shitty ass song. the songs on UP don't really do that to me.
Music's what i need to keep my sanity

Re: If you think Uplifter is better than Universal Pulse
I think two of the worst 10 311 songs ever made are on Universal Pulse, but overall it is a better record than Uplifter. The only problem is it's too god damn short, and not nearly as good as much of their older stuff. So it's pointless, in my opinion, to even compare. It's like going into your closet, grabbing the two worst shirts you own, and asking which one you should wear that day.
In my opinion.
Now that Universal Pulse has been released it would be interesting to see what people would come up with if they took the best songs from Evolver, DTOM, Uplifter, and Universal Pulse (43 songs to choose from, officially) to make one solid album.
In my opinion.

Give me the two songs on UP that are on the Top Ten Worst List, please.

(I'm not interested in a musicianship debate, I'm not a musician, I just dislike these two songs more than most)

Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm
Reconsider Everything
Give Me a Call
Getting Through To Her
Whiskey & Wine (but mixed like it was in the 'demo 3' version)
India Ink
Jackpot
Too Much Too Fast
Get Down
Sunset in July
Rock On
now someone else put this in order
Re: If you think Uplifter is better than Universal Pulse
1. Creatures (For A While)
2. India Ink
3. Getting Through To Her
4. Jackpot
5. Still Dreaming
6. Don't Tread On Me
7. Sometimes Jacks Rule
8 Beyond The Gray Sky
9. It's Alright
10. And A Ways To Go
11. Rock On
12. Golden Sunlight
Edited and slightly rearranged. Works well as far as transitions. Still Dreaming was the key to bringing the album together. It's not the greatest song, but it's B+ filler that breaks up the album fairly well in terms of heavy/poppy. Rock On was added toward the end for juxtaposition with AAWTG and GS. GS' chorus is too epic not to be used as a closer.
