South Park Season 17...

Post by rchrhds29 »

I gotta say I am more than happy as well as impressed with the quality of Season 17 of South Park, especially after Seasons 15 & 16 were sub par in my opinion.

Out of the four episodes played so far:
"Let Go, Let Gov"

"Informative Murder Porn"

"World War Zimmerman"

"Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers"

I'd say that Trey & Matt haven't had an episode that wasn't at least good, "Informative Murder Porn" I'd personally say I like the least of the four episodes shown so far for Season 17 of South Park, while I also gotta say "World War Zimmerman" is possibly the most politically poignant episode of South Park all time. Loved "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers" as the goth kids are some of my favorite characters, just was really hoping Butters would somehow be involved in the episode since he was a vamp kid previously.

LOL maybe I spoke too soon, season 17 is looking to just falling completely off the hill.

"Taming Strange": A decent episode, but could have been great if Trey and Matt would take their own advice!! If you've ever listened to South Park episode DVD commentary by Trey and Matt they constantly are saying that a lot of episodes fall apart because they stop focusing on just an "A" story and get too involved in a "B" and even a "C" story. The whole Ike thing and especially the Miley Cyrus angle was absolutely a "B" or "C" story and just shouldn't have been in the episode.

"Ginger Cow": Yeah, this episode was not good, it wasn't like "Ass Burgers" episode horrible but it wasn't good at all

"Black Friday": I didn't think it was that great, although it showed some huge potential in the beginning, but since this is gonna be a two part episode with part 2 being on tonight "A Song of Ass and Fire" it really all depends on what tonight's episode is like.

Oh, and I know they are only making 10 episodes this season and tonight is episode 8 but I really really have a feeling Matt & Trey are going to make a second George Zimmerman episode be one of the last two episodes of the season.

jimmy311: Yeah Goth Kids Part 3 was one of those episodes that your either hardcore 100% in and love it from the first second or that you don't like since its so focused on side characters. Similar to the "City Sushi" episode, I know a lot of people thought it sucked but I love Butters and really liked it

WOW after leaving that last comment that there honestly has not been much Butters this season at all!
"Let Go, Let Gov" yes Butters episode
"Informative Murder Porn" very minor character
"World War Zimmerman" I don't even think Butters is in for more than a couple seconds
"Goth Kids 3" not in at all
"Taming Strange" basically not in at all
"Ginger Cow" basically not in at all
"Black Friday" minor character at most

really hope, I know only three episodes left, but hope at least one more of them is Butters centric

The taming strange episode was a 100% A+ for me. Loved it. When he starts explaining sex, I lost it. They were able to tackle Miley, health care, and puberty all at once and it was masterfully done.

It felt like a classic episode.

to be fair, it only took 15.5 hours for the first reply which lead to his triple post with 2 minutes, 2 minutes, and 4 minutes of time to go by between each one........ about southpark.

LOL yeah as dj3stripes said bro the 3 replies were all in a 8 minute period, just when I wrote each thought of something else that would take a whole 30 seconds to type so typed it. I guess I could have just edited the first in that series to make the others part of it, which would than make 2 posts total by me.

Lets do some math:
2 posts by me
4 posts by others
--------------------
33% of posts by me

However, if you consider the fact that the first post was creating the thread and the thread wouldn't exist without it and it thus isn't a reply it really can't factor into the math.

So now we have:
1 posts by me
4 posts by me
-----------------
20% of posts by me

LOL obviously I didn't count this post into the figures, my reasoning being that this has nothing at all to do to the topic of the thread and made it because absolutely nothing drives me crazier when people use argue that 2+2 does not equal 4

I dunno how I feel. I still enjoy watching South Park. And there's at least 1 or 2 episodes out of every season that are pretty awesome.

But I started re-watching Seasons 1-8 recently and I enjoyed it a lot more when the plots weren't completely driven by parodies of current events like they are these days. I feel like for the most part, a lot of these later season episodes will be lost one day because people will totally forget the pop culture reference points. I think the episode where they parodied the Jersey Shore was a turning point.

But at the same time, I realize that it's impressive that they've maintained a successful show for 17 years. Like of course completely original content will be hard to create after being at it for so long. The show basically lives on, and gets a huge draw, by poking fun at immediate pop culture things. People love their references, so this is easy money for Matt & Trey to fund other things that they want to work on.

Props to the creators for finding a way to keep it going while multitasking with other successful projects.
