Some Great Television Shows That Were Never Given A Chance

Post by rchrhds29 »

Some television shows see success others don't, but some shows get cancelled (for a variety of reasons) before they were given a chance. Here are my favorite shows that weren't given a fair shake:

'Free Radio': This show starred Lance Krall, who played an moronic radio station intern who became the station's morning dj after the old dj 'Rip Rebel' defected to satellite radio. After Lance take's over the station's morning show is renamed "Moron In The Morning" and becomes more successful than ever. This was an awesome show, and operated in a Curb Your Enthusiasm style where most of the show's dialogue was improvised. Had some great guest stars in it's two seasons as well, like Tony Hawk and the guys from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". It's amazing this show lasted a full two seasons, considering how many times it got screwed over. First it was on VH1, where it didn't exactly fit in with the rest of their horrible reality television crap. Also, in it's two years on VH1 it changed day and time at least twice, making it really hard for fans of the show to know when it would be on. Than, Comedy Central picked up the reruns (and was supposedly considering picking up new episodes of the show as well), however, Comedy Central played the reruns for less than two weeks (at the horrible midnight weekdays time slot) and than pushed it back to the 2am slot after like three days.
Unfortunately, 'Free Radio' has yet to be released for DVD, and it looks like it never will be.

'That's My Bush': Created by South Park legends Trey Parker and Matt Stone, 'That's My Bush' was their first, and only, attempt at an non-animated television series. The show starred Timothy Meadows, who looked and sounded WAY more like W than Will Ferrell, and was more a spoof of sitcoms than one on politics. However, the show was cancelled right after 9/11, although Comedy Central claimed it had nothing to do with 9/11 and was because the show's budget was too high, which I don't buy for one damn second as the show had no big name actors and Trey and Matt did all the music so I don't see how the budget could have been the reason for the show's cancellation. Fortunately, the show has since come out on DVD.

'Fastlane': The best cop show I have ever seen, although it only lasted one season, on Fox. The show starred Peter Faccenelli, Bill Bellamy, and Tiffani Amber Thiessen, as well as Jay Mohr (whose character became a regular in the final few episodes). This show was cancelled for a few reasons:
1. Fox switched it's day and time slot at least twice, and it ended up on Friday night at 9pm or 10pm, and being geared for a 20 something male audience that kind of time slot is like a death sentence
2. Budget: Unlike 'That's My Bush', 'Fastlane' definitely did have an insane budget. The show would feature a bare minimum of five $100,000+ cars every single episode and was known for featuring a ton of music that was hot at the moment, so the show's musical rights were out of control as well. About a year or so ago I looked on Wikipedia, and although 'Fastlane' was on like 15 years ago it was still the most expensive television show ever when I looked.
'Fastlane' is also available on DVD, although the DVD doesn't contain the music that was originally on the show.

Got taken off after the beginning of the Iraq war. The 4th or 5th episode was to be aired, but ABC replaced it with a news show to follow the war...and it never got picked back up. Sci Fi did air the remaining episodes, 13 total, at a later time. It was a group of scientists/archaeologists who traveled around the world to find "the truth" about our past...usually being steps behind the bad guys in getting there. Very Indy/Tomb Raider inspired.
Being a sucker for Indy stuff, and getting your approval. I must check it out.

I kind of liked Terra Nova. I just wish they would have had his kids eaten and gone with more adult themes.

Happy Town - was taken off before the last 2 episodes aired. ABC (or was it CBS) had the last two episodes as streaming on their site but at the time I had no internet :(

i rediscovered/got into "Get A Life" with Chris Elliot. it used to air before Married With Children for 2 seasons in the early 90s. it's mad silly. think its considered underrated and i would agree.

shiny you would go that deep.

terra nova was dogshit with a big budget. i'd watch again, but they fucked that up. it will happen to that submarine show this year that is so clearly trying to recpature lost it is laughable. i'll watch it.

the wire being mentioned in this thread makes me want to choke a bitch.

flashforward was dogshit. period. .

terriers.

firefly is obligatory but yeah it was great. rome was awesome but just too big a budget for what they produced. that being said, death of ceasar in that show is hard to watch. goddamnit, I just want great ceasar to live so the christians would never take over and we'd be on mars now.

Thought of another great one: "Code Monkeys"

Personally, I loved this G4 original animated comedy show, although it only lasted one season. It was original as hell and funny, loved it.
