arcHIVE is now streaming!!

Post by CULTI-VADER »

Listening on Google Play Music right now. Believe it is on Spotify and others too.

Juan Bond remastered is glorious. Lemming is my favorite unreleased track so far. Everything is nice little Hawaiian-esque jam.

Into the Flame is so much better finalized

So much to digest... :D :D :D

*edit* The Homebrew pre-pro is bad ass. "With the pussy walk..." Lol

The Can't Fade Me demo is really different and interesting

Kinda disappointed the acoustic Paradise doesn't have vocals but it's pretty sick regardless

so far, i think the best thing about this set is the cleaned up versions of the non-album tracks. it's cool to hear crisp recordings of songs we've only had shitty rips of previously.

the next most interesting tracks are the pre-production versions, especially the ones from the from chaos sessions. it's cool to hear this band sound live in a recorded format. i know that precision is a big part of the '311 sound,' but that version of champagne with all that space and echo and looseness is really cool. same with the live-band demos.

i can't say i'm disappointed by the transistor b-sides, because they're b-sides, but they're definitely in line with some of the more lackluster, half-baked tracks that did make the album: cool ideas but not real focus or cohesion. the best thing about these is the nostalgia they stir up. it's cool to hear 'new' songs that have that transistor vibe/feel to them, even if they're not great songs.

the demos - i don't really have any use for those. the midi drums, the dumb synths - i don't know. there's just nothing surprising there. that's what demos sound like when a band works the way this band works.

dunno if you have experience making music, but it's common to play a song live and really feel like it's working, then try to recreate that in the studio and have it just fall apart.

my guess is that this is a cleaned up version of what they tracked for the album. what we'd heard before sounded more like a pre-pro demo. most likely, that pre-pro version is too shitty a recording to be properly cleaned up and released, but this version just doesn't have the performances (especially vocally).

Thanks for the answer bro. It wasn't rhetorical question or anything... Glad you got the inside knowledge.

no prob. i mean, i'm only speculating based on my own experiences and what i hear. i'd love to hear what the band would have to say about each version.

Hey! Where can I go to hear all of this?

I ordered the early cheaper version from Amazon UK, so I won't be getting my box set in the mail til mid-July.

Or you can just PM me.

Thanks! :)
