Re: Any of you going to the Cinci or Columbus shows?
I went to the LC show last night. Had a couple beers with Natty_Dreadlox in the connecting bar. Then Hexumjunkie and his girlfriend met up with us, and I watched the Wailers & 311 with them. It had been years since I had seen both of those guys. Good people. I had a good time at the show.
DJ, I didn't have the cash to get the poster for you. I didn't even get a new t-shirt like I was planning. And even if I did get the poster, it might have gotten ruined anyway by the rain and mud. Thankfully I was rocking the rain poncho.

Re: Columbus 7/7/14
SETLIST STATS:
Music: 1
Grassroots: 2
Blue: 3
Transistor: 4
Soundsystem: 2
From Chaos: 2
Evolver: 1
DTOM: 0
Uplifter: 0
Universal Pulse: 1
Stereolithic: 6
Non-Album: 2
SETLIST SONGS:
1. Do You Right
2. Freeze Time
3. Showdown
4. Revelation Of The Year
5. You Wouldn’t Believe
6. Silver
7. Stealing Happy Hours
8. Don’t Stay Home
9. Rock On
10. Simple True
11. Applied Science (with percussion break)
12. Stereolithic track 14 or 15 (that I don't like all)
13. Come Original
14. Use Of Time
15. Boom Shanka
16. Amber (I took a long piss)
17. Imperial March (bass solo)
18. What Was I Thinking
19. All Re-Mixed Up
20. Beautiful Disaster
21. Down
encore:
22: Who's Got the Herb?
23. Friday Afternoon
24. Creatures (For A While) [When they played Down, Hexumjunkie correctly called that the show closer would be Creatures.]
I've seen a lot of fans say, "Awesome setlist!" But then again, I've noticed that almost all 311 fans say almost every 311 setlist they go to or read about is 'awesome', so there seems to be no subjectivity.
My hope for a lot of Grassroots was let down. Silver rocked, but the only other song was the only song I've seen at every show and it's broken up by the long percussion break. I also went for Stereolithic and they did play 6 songs from it. But only 1 of my 4 favorite songs, and a couple of my least faves on the album. I didn't see Rock On last year, so there were 7 songs total I had never seen live before.
What Was I Thinking and Come Original really rocked. I enjoyed Imperial March more than the Applied Science percussion break. Creatures rocked, but there were only a few of my all-time fave songs played at this show. And Down was cool, but this was definitely the only show in 19 years that Nick didn't thank me for being there. I can't help but feel a little slighted.
I still enjoyed most of the show and had a good time, but I have to say that I am a little disappointed by the overall setlist.
The grass area seemed to be thinned-out a bit so I wonder if attendance is a little down. The good news is that the people all around us were cool and there didn't seem to be an overabundance of young drunken meat-heads, but maybe this is the very beginning of the end for 311...
Since it is extremely unlikely that 311 will have an entire tour where they play Blue in its entirety, I think I will just have to plan on having a family mini-vacation in Omaha or wherever the inevitable Blue anniversary concert is so I can: (1) celebrate my 20th anniversary year of seeing 311 in concert, (2) have Down properly dedicated to me, (3) see my favorite 311 song Hive (plus T&P Combo and the rest of a great album), (4) take my son to see 311 before their done touring, and (5) retire from seeing 311 live (for real this time) on a high note.
July 25th 2015 is on a Saturday. This could be awesome! And after the Blue set, maybe the'll play Omaha Stylee and end the show with FTBS.

I'm not gonna make it to either show. I'm a terrible 311 fan with terrible 311 fan friends.
I'm going to try and make the cruise instead. I may just go by my fucking self. I think I'm going to become a loner, a rebel. Having friends in your 30's blows.

Ben I'm probably going to have to go solo if I want to go to the cruise as well. I haven't been to a cruise or 311 day yet, so something has to give at some point. We'll keep each other updated. I hear you about friends in their 30's.

also, Ska, I may be making it tonight after all to the Pittsburgh show. I will PM you my details if I leave

I was really hoping they would play light years with the lightning show we got in the Cbus. Good time indeed watching the show with ya man. I'm gonna do my stats today.
Re: Any of you going to the Cinci or Columbus shows?
That's ours too, but looks like We'll be cutting it close unless I drive like a mad man.ska wrote:Awesome! I'll be leaving work about 3:30 or so to make my way up to Pittsburgh (it's a little over an hour drive). Probably grabbing something to eat near the venue before the show.Smoke wrote:absolutely Jesse

Won't know if I can go until 2ish, leaving at 3ish, and 2hr drive.
Where's good to eat near the AE Venue? Anyone know? Good bar and burger joint would be cool.

Been keeping an eye on weather.com.. I noticed it was outdoor. Was hoping they had a roof like Tower City or something of that nature.ska wrote:I don't go out much without my wife with me...might as well take advantage. Really raining hard here. Looks like it might be an interesting night for an outdoor concert.
Re: Any of you going to the Cinci or Columbus shows?
I'll deal with an outdoor rainy concert. I'm usually drenched in other peoples sweat from the pit anyway! Which I think I'm staying out of tonight...but will see.
