Well I AM NOT GOING THEN!

PFFT

plus it's 12hrs drive time
or
$500 roundtrip
+ hotel

Just to hear grassroots live all the way through, which would be awesome and almost worth the like $700+ this would cost me

why do you think it was named the grassroots festival?

I mentioned it to Jake (owner of the hive rock club and art gallery) that it'd be cool if we put on another show in celebration to a 311 20th anniversary like we did with music. Had some local bands come in , perform their stuff and a few 311 covers. It was fun. When he told me he was getting a show together for 311 this summer at the park, I asked what date. He told me sometime in July. I told him he should check to see if it was the 12th. Total conincidence/accident. Instead of having a show of some local bands doing a few 311 covers, we're getting 311 to perform the entire damn album. Pretty excited

That's awesome. I know you don't care because you get to go to the anniversary show, but what do you think the odds are of 311 playing a lot of Grassroots songs in the setlists of the week leading up to the festival? Maybe get some songs in the rotation as a little "practice" before the big show?

No idea, I mean how many need to be dusted off really? I haven't kept up with setlist stats in a while, other than the rarities that pop up every so often.

SS in 2019 will be cool, but let's not skip too far ahead shall we? First we need Blue in 2015! It's only triple platinum! They should do a whole tour with Blue in its entirety plus another set of variable stuff to change it up. "This is for all the old school fans!" to start every show.

Whoa whoa whoa. Are you saying they may not be touring at all in the coming years? They're getting ready to hang it up or at least slow down?

I really don't think so. Blue, sure, but after 45 I don't think they'll have it in them. I really hope I'm wrong. Just enjoy what shows you can while you can! This show will be a nice full circle from the first time I saw them in 97 to a sold out amphitheater on a hugely successfully multi-year tour to a stop in a field with a temporary stage with a fraction of the ammount of people, however this will sell out. Looking forward to the wailers too :)

I've been wondering, why the 1+ year touring gap in '98/'99? Nick's hair transplant?

Part of it was probably Chad breaking his wrist.

Oh shit, I didn't think about that! Guess I thought that would be a quick recovery. Good job Chad!
Imagine though a year-long tour with Freese. Heads would get broken!

Dammit, if this is a ploy to make me want see 311 this year, it's working. Grassroots songs or not, I would like to see some Stereolithic live and that's a sure bet this year. And I do have the tradition of buying a new t-shirt for every studio album. Hell, I would like to celebrate 311's best album of the century (and maybe last album). I don't regret taking 2011 and 2012 off from the show, but thinking about their touring days being numbered does make me want to see them for the 22nd time.

However I'm trying to remain more optimistic. I feel it is more likely they will slow down after 45 but not completely retire from touring. Since they usually do three Ohio shows per year, I think they would still do at least one a year for a while. But maybe it is wishful-thinking because I hope they keep touring long enough for me to take my son to one outdoor show before they're completely done.
