Pretty bizarre setlist. No Down, no Amber. And seriously how do they not play The Great divide or Made in the shade? seriously

No down, No amber, No surprise...it was 311 day!
Re: Setlist for 311 Day.
Down brought me in to 311, but after hearing it at least a 1,000 times I'm kind of done with it. I feel for 311 having to play it every show. They should put it on haitus for a few years, then when they play it again it will be special.dj3stripes wrote:No down, No amber, No surprise...it was 311 day!
Amber is the song all the gals at the bar always want to play when I go to put 311 on the jukebox.

At 311 Day 2004 they played lots of rarities. But they went into Amber a bit at the end of D'yer Mak'er. Not being a fan of the Amber, I was thrilled because I thought that meant they weren't going to also play the whole song later, but I was wrong and they did. Amber overkill. I think that's when I went to take a piss and bought my t-shirts. Amber is ok, but I never loved it, and yes it is so overplayed. Shane, it sounds like you are saying they don't play Amber at 311 Days anymore. That's cool, no big loss there.dj3stripes wrote:No down, No amber, No surprise...it was 311 day!
Down means different things to different people, and maybe they like it, maybe they don't, maybe they're sick of it. To some fans that started with From Chaos, Down may just be a 90's song that they play a lot. A lot of these people may feel Down's requisite dedication to "old school fans" mean fans that have been down with 311 since the 90's. Like Smoke, a lot of older fans first heard of and got into 311 when Down was a hit in '96, and to them, the concert dedication may mean fans that have been with them since Down (since 96).
However the song itself came out on the blue album a year before it was a hit, and the song lyrics were obviously written before the album came out. The thank you to the fans is written right into the chorus. What a lot of people don't know is, in both of my '95 shows, Nick said the same dedication to the "old school fans". Down is really inspired by the fans that have been there since before the blue album. I became a 311 fan in '93 with Music, so I really appreciate Nick's dedication every time I hear it. As far as the song itself goes, I have always loved it from long before it was hit and never really got sick of it. But I have heard Down at almost every show so I really wouldn't feel bad if they never played it live again.
One of my favorite shows was the one in Columbus when they were running low on time due to the city noise ordinance (and it was later confirmed that the setlist was written for the show to end with Down). Nick had his guitar and they were ready to start playing it but the crowd was chanting for them to play FTBS. Nick looked at the other guys and then a guitar tech came and took his guitar, and they played FTBS instead. I love FTBS much more than Down and they don't play FTBS at every show anymore like they used to. That was so awesome and it was a better dedication to the old school fans.

FTBS is nice at the end of the show, because everyone has that last ditch effort to get a fatlip in the pit
(i'm kidding, everyone knows the pit at 311 show is a no hit zone)

I love the pit. But I don't like being drenched in my and other peoples sweat at the end of the concert.fatlip wrote:try all you will.. fatlip is too old for the pitSmoke wrote:FTBS is nice at the end of the show, because everyone has that last ditch effort to get a fatlip in the pit

amber wasn't even 3 years old at that time..........Mindspin wrote:At 311 Day 2004 they played lots of rarities. But they went into Amber a bit at the end of D'yer Mak'er.
