Anyone else a little dissapointed?

Post by hexumjunkie »

I mean there are a few solid's in my opinion, The Great divide is classic 311...and a few others. Sand dollars is a cool chill song. But so many others are just not like really rocking. And when something does get going Nick kills it with some harmony. I really thought we had a nice in your face album coming when Nick said he was gonna use NHQ for his experimental outlet. All the interviews lately have been how much rock is on this disc and I just don't hear it. Don't kill me as I am just voicing my opinion. I really didn't like friday afternoon and as much as it pains me to say it, when I got to tranquilty I said that's enough and shut it off.

Im just voicing my opinion, you don't think there getting soft? Go listen to grassroots and the blue album and tell me if you hear any of this? Remember when SA said "the day we turn to pop the show will stop" ? Well you better cancel the tour then. What happened to the music that we all fell in love with? Everyone of us said it the last 2 efforts, There's a few in here but in no way do I put this in my top 5.

We're never going to get Grassroots 2 or Transistor 2. There's your problem. This is something new and different. Deal with it.

Yep. That was 20 years ago...just revel in the fact they surprisingly actually produced something in 2014 that displays a level of creativity and inspiration

I think the disappointment needs context. Disappointment in relation to past 311 albums? To your nostalgia? Because your taste in music has changed?

I haven't listened to Uplifter or UP. But considering the lukewarm response to those albums I am hesitant to buy into the hype much considering it would be rather easy to blow those away.

Ralston truly has the magic touch if it lives up.

I will say from all the opinions I've seen across the board, this one is easily the most negative. Seems like everyone really likes this album.

I guess I hear too much NHQ in this disc, Which I don't mind nick doing that. But it's not 311.....I guess I also need to realize they arent the rap/rock combo they used to be. No way am I upset or trying to put out a negative vibe, Guess im just let down after all the talk of how hard the cd was gonna rock. When I think of rocking songs, I think Rock on, hostile apostile, sick tight, freak out, fuck the bs, offbeat bareass, etc etc. I guess my hopes were too high, and ill always listen to anything they put out. 311 always!

I didn't listen to a moment of NHQ so I don't have the same perspective, but if you come back after many years, to piss and moan about how it's not grassroots 2.0 it's a pretty big buzzkill..... give it another listen with an open mind, not set up for disappointment, it's a solid album. IMO most creative/daring in at least a decade..

I've listened to NHQ about 1-2 times a week since it was released.

The only similarity is that Nick Hexum is in both bands.

Dj, I plan on listening tonight without the ear buds in the right frame of mind. This morning it was in 128, earbuds, and being interupted quite a bit!

Yes. Would it kill them to make a song without harmonizing in it? That said I love the instrumentals. Just disappointed in the vocals much like the last 3 albums.
