Meeting the Band
Another n00b here...what up.
I'm sure most of you have met some or all members of 311, but I wonder if your experiences are similar to mine. Out of the handful of times I've met them, this has been my experience:
Tim: EXTREMELY gracious. Always willing to take one more pic/sign one more shirt for everyone. Never seems to be in a hurry to cut it short.
PNut: Grateful, a little chatty. Good about pics/signing stuff.
Chad: Quiet, but not rude.
SA: The one member I have yet to meet, but been told he's talkative, inquisitive, and very accomodating to fans.
Nick: Met him twice and both times he was kind of a dick...kinda crushed me, but I've been told I'm not alone.

Re: Meeting the Band
I can def same the same about everyone, besides Nick.
I met him after the Borgata Casino show last year and he was so cool. Maybe it was due to the fact that he had been throwing em' back? Maybe, maybe not?
SA is extremely awesome to speak with - he asked me about my personal life and all.
miT made a joke one time about how he has to get so many guitar picks after a Philly show because he flings so many to me.
Nutter and Chad are spot on in your post.

A quiet drummer? Chad is officially my second favorite musician ever, behind Dmitri Shostakovich.

Re: Meeting the Band
met em all last night at the cd release and honestly, i was dead tired from the heat and 2.5 hour wait but they were energetic and asked me more questions than i did of them. post-show i've seem attitude in the past but last night even at 2:00am and having been sitting at a signing table for 2 hours straight they were great and thankful. Tonight's gonna be fun.

Re: Meeting the Band
A couple days before 311 Day in New Orleans last time they were there, I was walking down Bourbon street and happened to run into Nick before anyone else had seen him. I was pretty starstruck, but I did manage to say "Hey, Nick what's up?" He just looked at me and kept on walking. Hhahahaha. That hurt my feelings
Motherfucker.
I shook Tim's hand once outside of St. Andrews before they went in, in Detroit.

Re: Meeting the Band
You're pretty spot on. miT it definitely the most generous with the fans. He'll stay and talk to fans longer than anyone else in the band. He's such a goof too. Super funny guy. I would say Pnut is next. He makes fans feel really good and he's very wise. He had his arm around me once and really gave me a good squeeze. Almost like a side-hug. SA is great with fans. I chatted it up with him for a good 10 minutes one night in Chicago. He even went back to the bus to grab Chad, at my request, which blew my mind. Really cool of him to do. Chad is very nice, and you're right he is pretty quiet. I think he might get a little shy when he's being hounded by fans. That's understandable. But we was also fun to talk to and made us feel very appreciated. And that's all I could really ask for.
That leaves Nick. I thought the same thing you did. He was a dick. It seemed all he wanted to do was soak up the attention and then be on his way. I asked him to pose for a picture, and he did, but he also make a pretty snarky comment while doing it. I really wasn't surprised he was like that either. He always came off like he thought he was too cool for school.

Re: Meeting the Band
The one time I met Nick he was great. Hung out with everyone for about 30 minutes before the show, signed everything and got pictures, and only left when he was told he had to for sound check. Apparently my experience is in the minority.

Do you remember the comment he made?

Re: Meeting the Band
I was never a groupie that hung out by the buses or anything, but most of my 311 band member stories involve Nick and Tim (the two guys I've ended up having the most interaction with, then Nut). I wish I could of had a chance to talk to SA and Chad.

Re: Meeting the Band
all these reviews of what the guys are actually like sound awesome and id love to talk to them sometime. but they also make me not want to talk to nick because i wouldnt want him to be a dick to me, if i had an experience like that it would really suck and make me think twice about the message he seems to always send in the lyrics. but just by looking at nick you can kind of tell he may have that too cool mentality, and if you watch some of his interviews he sort of comes off that way as well.

Re: Meeting the Band
Because that is some guys mentality. Why? I'm not a psychologist, even though I saw someone on tv do it once.

lol but yet I am. Just finished grad school for clinical psychology.Smoke311 wrote:Because that is some guys mentality. Why? I'm not a psychologist, even though I saw someone on tv do it once.
It's simple a simple equation
Rise to fame + fame + success + endless supply of money = mentality of "I'm the Shit" (and no, not any of the remixes by DJ Class)
It really is a shame that some people get this way, because they were once mere "human beings" like us; but the money and fame get to their heads.
Re: Meeting the Band
In fairness to Nick, we are all posting to a forum for a band that he fronts, and most of us have been fans for at least 10 years.
I think Nick is the shit, however, some humble pie would go along way.
