i cant agree with the 311 selling out on this album at all, if anything, to me its a step in the right direction. this album was made for the fans more than anything. think about it, those random chants they put in there for no reason but to make the live shows for fans even more fun then they already are. does daisy cutter really need a "now clap your hands! jump to the beat!" not at all, but they put it in there because they want the people that come to their shows to have fun and enjoy listening to them. how many times have they said in interviews "oh this song is gonna be so much fun live" or "that song is gonna kick ass live" they do this for US. DTOM was the epitome of selling out, where music was intentionally made radio friendly. i dont think at all 311 made any of uplifter to be intentionally radio friendly, this album was made for the fans plain and simple.

well said jimbo, i agree with this 100%.

I can see where Jorge and other fans would feel like he does especially with the way he presents his thoughts. Jorge is one of the few that actually makes sense when it comes to critiquing 311. It's hard not to agree with you when you put things the way you do.
Jump up and down cuz that's the 311 style!

I don't think DTOM was the definition of selling out. I think DTOM was just a rushed botched 311 album, and the creation of it was at a time when the band was easily impressionable by current events and their label, etc. I don't think it's creation was an attempt by the band to sell out. In fact, if I remember correctly, DTOM didn't sell very well at all.

Does anyone else think SOME of chads best drumming (on this album anyway) is on Sun Comes Through and How Long Has it Been?

ridiculously simple beat

chad doesn't do anything particularly impressive on this album, except maybe never ending summer

311's new style really handcuffs him

nuh-uh...Chad's drumming has simplified more and more on each album since Grassroots...New style? seriously? You think he can't progress with the rest of the band? You act like the rest of the band pulled a fast one on him and changed their style overnight.

i think what loocas is trying to say is that he is very skilled, but hte route that 311 has been going down is going to cripple him being able to show exactly what he can do

311's old cheesy lyrics weren't bad cuz at least they had some swagger and their shit just rocked hard. I still like the new album but it's hard to deny that some of the lyrics are quite lame.
I'd like to build the world a spliff.
