music production programs?

ok, i know a few ppl here make their own beats/music and i was wondering if anyone knew of any free programs i can download.

i had garage band, which came with my my mac and that was ok. i just downloaded the hammerhead rhytm station and thats pretty weak. And a loooong time ago i tried acid, but as far as i knew i couldn't make my own loops.

i appreciate any help guys.

a simple little tool i use sometimes to clip tracks or combine stuff is audacity
