Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
Bright Eyes
Faint
Cursive
Anyone like these bands? It's hard to believe they are from the same town as 311 since they sound so different.

i simply cannot understand how different genres can originate from the same city

weird like how different color hairs grow out of the same beard. It doesn't seem right, but it's awesome.

Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
Well, if you squint we all pretty much have the same face, so I can see your confusion
Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
There are entire subgenres of music defined by the city or region from where they originate. Examples:Shiny wrote:i simply cannot understand how different genres can originate from the same city
Delta Blues
Chicago Blues
New York Blues
Memphis Blues
Detroit Blues
New Orleans Jazz
Miami Bass
But I suppose in this modern era with internet and easiness of travel, that is not the case anymore, at least not much. Now could you stop being a jackass and stick to the topic instead of trying to derail this thread?
The NYC metropolitan area's population is 22,232,494, while Omaha's metro area has 877,110. There is no comparison in terms of population, diversity of demographics, and so on. Nice try though.
Thank you for seeing the point of this thread and making a humorous metaphor about it.mystoneybaby wrote:weird like how different color hairs grow out of the same beard. It doesn't seem right, but it's awesome.
Now back to the original topic. Does anybody here on TB like any of these bands?

Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
I live in Omaha, and haven't given a second thought to any of these bands, except the faint who did a decent remake of a NIN song.
Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
That's really cool. All of these bands are pretty big, at least in the indie rock scene. Being from Omaha, I know you've had to have heard of them unless you have been under a rock.dj3stripes wrote:I live in Omaha, and haven't given a second thought to any of these bands, except the faint who did a decent remake of a NIN song.
Were you around during 311's early days when they toured mostly in Omaha? If so, how was it?
Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
as far as bright eyes goes.. i'm just waiting for conor oberst to follow in the footsteps of jeff buckley and elliott smith

i've heard of them but never while they were local bands.
no, i grew up 20miles west of town and didn't discover good music until 95ish

bbshorts i don't understand the point that you are trying to make
feel like a population of 877,110 is enough people to yield 4 bands that belong to different genres.
i like the faint a lot actually. 'danse macabre' is really good and influenced me a lot.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I wonder what bands 311 toured with back in the early days (other than opening for Fugazi).Shiny wrote:I feel like a population of 877,110 is enough people to yield 4 bands that belong to different genres.

Grasshopper Takeover, Pomeroy, Cursive, The Good Life, I like some of the Faint...there's some fun bands out of Omaha. don't really care for Oberst/Bright eyes

grasshopper takeover was ok, but not life changing or different from any other local band I'd imagine in any other town

Re: Other Bands from Omaha, Nebraska.
pomeroy played Omaha enough that they might as well have been. agree on GTO just being solid, but they were Omahas solid local band. they forever get a pass just for Elephant Dreams
