So their pop stuff was decent, but I want to talk about Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. Both of these albums I hold dearly and shaped alot of my future inclinations to certain genres of music.
This is a must read on Laughing Stock: http://thequietus.com/articles/06963-ta ... hing-stock" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

^^ contains the infamous "torture" solo.
The Beatles or Radiohead never came to this sort of artistic jump in their careers.
If you hate the above, then I understand it's an acquired taste I think.
Talk Talk
Re: Talk Talk
One of my favorite bands of all time. The early new wave stuff is fantastic as well. Party's Over is classic and It's My Life has some great songs. Tomorrow's Started is such an incredible slow burner. Spirit of Eden is a bit overrated, but I still enjoy it. I prefer Laughing Stock. After the Flood is sooooo good and his collaboration with Beth Gibbons of Portishead is also incredible. Mark Hollis has an unmistakeable voice. Love them.

Love this, and it was there debut album. There is such a confidence. Matched Neck and Neck with New Order, and Talk Talk's transition into post-rock is equally as transcendent as Joy Division going New Order post-Ian Curtis.
