G. Love - fixin to die

Post by 311_4_unity »

Totally digging G. Loves new album. Probably the most blues based album he's done yet. Also has a very chilling on the front porch in the south vibe to it as well. Such a nice surprise and a cool addition to his catalog. Pow wow anyone?

G Love is great live (with the entire band). Saw solo last year when he toured with Jack Johnson and wasn't impressed.

Didn't the original bassist leave the band? I have yet to see who replaced him.

First 3 albums are my favorites, I'll have to revisit this one.

agreed on G. Love solo live...not very good. didn't even like his studio solo stuff that much either. other than that i find them all very fun to listen to in the summertime.

The Hustle is by far his best album.

Superhero Brother was awful. And Lemonade was not so good either.
His lyrics suffer from 311 syndrome; He's become way too corny and overly tries-to-be-so-positive-it-makes-me-cringe.

Fixin' to die is pretty decent, I haven't given it enough playtime yet, but I do have it and have listened through it probably once.

I saw G. Love open for 311 one time. From what I remember, sounded cool, but never heard any recordings.

Wasn't that the soundsystem tour? Right around the time of his philadelphonic album...Great tour for both bands

Hell I don't remember which tour now. After seeing the band 20 times in 15 years, a lot of it starts to blend together.

I have all of those. And all of his albums to be more specific.

The Hustle is still by far the best.

Just met G. Love.

I go to this reggae bar on sunday nights for this band Dub Apocalypse (drummer/bassist from john brown's body's side project) Instrumental reggae band, but every now and then they have a guest vocalist who comes up and sings a song or two with them. Usually unknown local people/friends of the band.

This place holds maybe 60-80 people. Really small bar.

Anyway, next thing I know G Love is up there with the band singing/rapping/playing harmonica and just improvising and jamming out. Apparently the saxophone player for Dub Apocalypse plays with G Love so G decided to come out and be a surprise guest. It was unbelievable seeing him there. Couldn't believe my eyes at first. Got to meet him and say hi too. Pretty sweet :D
