I don't know why but it reminds me of the unplugged set that the 10,000 Maniacs did back in the 90's. Maybe because she has a peculiar voice like Natalie.

I wish every band I like would redo their album with a studio orchestra. haha.

Did you like the album, third? Its so amazing and such a natural evolution of trip-hop that they were known for back in the early 90s

I love Third. Although, I didn't enjoy it as much as their first two records.

Also, I don't see it as much as an evolution of trip-hop. To me, Third is Phead gone folk. It's still has the same electronic elements, but rather than rely on hip hop type rhythms, it's a more traditional, folk method.

Can't wait for their new one, too.

Because it's Portishead I guess its only natural to attempt and bridge the gap between what they did when they came out and what they do now. I guess I just associate the more sultry moments of songs like nylon smile and the rip to be reminiscent of things that happened on dummy. But some of the best moments happen when they incorporate a more folky aspect like deep water (which i think is probably one of the best Portishead tracks available). Her voice works so well in many different types of songs and the way that it transitions into machine gun its like the organic and then the synthetic without sounding too premeditated.

I'd vote for Tricky's Maxinquaye as the best of trip-hop
