Nothing major here in the city, the fires are all happening in the country and the outskirts. The spot where we got married was affected just a week or 2 after we were there so we got lucky to avoid it. So far apparently 7 people have died and about half a billion animals dead (poor kangaroos and koalas 
). Aside from the smoke in the air most days, it hasn't affected me personally.
Big fires happen out here all the time but this is a pretty bad one it seems. There have been bigger in the past. bush fires are normal in Australia in the summer but I think the frequency has increased in recent times.
