It undermines people who practice medicine and it completely eliminates competition which drastically lowers standards and lowers incentive. The government, not profiting from this, will monopolize the health industry. And that's just the way they want it.

Maybe the regime isn't 100% socialist, but Obama and his regime haven't met a socialist policy they didn't lose their fucking minds over yet. The government has bought out or subsidized most of the bad assets that were crippling the economy, and they lowered interest rates along the way. That, and the socialization of the healthcare industry are glaringly socialist looking redistributions of wealth if I've ever seen one, and I'm still waiting for you to explain to me how it isn't.

Jimmy, in order to defend your position (in anything) you must first understand the "other side" of the fence. I spent a few years of my life on your side, and at the time I probably would have made the same arguments that you're making now. At some point though I hit a wall. I found myself unable to rationalize things like entitlements, while things such as self-determination and personal liberty made so much sense to me. My mind has been "swayed", because I'm always ready and willing to absorb more knowledge and see things from other perspectives in order to feel secure in my choices and have the ability to defend them. In future debates, I wouldn't recommend announcing that you're too stubborn to "see things" the other way, or making fallacious assumptions that the people you are arguing with are as stubborn as you.

George Bush is as much of a worthless piece of shit as Obama is, but he's less of a socialist. The Bailouts are about redistributing wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich in order to prop up a failed economy and serve government interests. Taxes are a better example of socialism when rich people are taxed 50% to pay for a poor person's education, living expenses, and health care. Obama loves taxes. And in order to pay for this 1.3 trillion dollar socialized healthcare legislation he'll have to raise them a lot. How much can you raise taxes without just throwing your arms up and saying, "Fuck it, let's just call this socialism"?

Who am I to judge to gets healthcare? Boy you have a lot of nerve. Healthcare is a service provided as a good, like food. It's not a right. And nothing the government does is going to change that. We have a natural right to pursue happiness. We have a natural right to provide for ourselves. No one has a right to other people's labor. Before the government intervened we had the best healthcare in the world. For the past 70 some odd years the government has been intruding so much into the healthcare industry that it's become incredibly difficult to insure people, thus the high costs. With the government taking over completely there will be no competition, no other options left to get insurance, less incentive for doctors to practice medicine, and what lousy healthcare we will get will be rationed to us. Imagine if the government rationed food to us because they controlled who made what food and how. We'd all get ready packs of tofu flavored paste because it would be "healthy" under whatever standards the government chose, and it would be cheap. Asking who I am to "judge" who gets healthcare is like asking who I am to judge who gets food. I'm no one to judge. And that's the point. No one is. Would you support the government taking away all of our options for food (grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, fast food, etc) under the bullshit guise that it's to prevent people from starving? That's exactly what is happening with healthcare. We had it made. Now we don't. Thank you government.

If you knew anything about the man outside of what the media tells you, you'd have more respect for him. That is unless you view the Constitution as an enemy somehow. Something tells me you're of the "the constitution is outdated and needs to be changed to fit the demands of today's society" variety. If that is the case, there are plenty of places in the world that fit the demands of the direction our society has been heading lately. Move there. This is the LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.
