The other day(thursday october 12) I posted a few pics and said how the first snow fall was early this year and how come february the excitement of snow fades into a deep hatred for it(cabin fever syndrome, haha).(on the UBB)
Anyway when I posted that in the other thread the other day I had no idea that it was gonna turn into a major snow event and was really thinking this is nothing just a few flakes.
I took a few pics on thursday the 12th around 3pm when my son got off the bus from school and that is when the few flurries started. As the night went on it kept snowing and the flakes got bigger(lake effect) and still I didn't think it was really gonna be anything like it turned out. I mean I have spent 28 winters in the Buffalo area and snow is nothing new. At 11pm on thursday the 12th our power went out and didn't come back on till yesterday(october 13th) around 4pm.
Here are some pics of the snow over the 2 days from my doorstep. It was really weird for this to happen this early in october and it caught so many off guard. At least we have power now!!!
October 12th 3pm
October 12th 5pm-8pm
OCTOBER 13th 7am
October 13th(noon till 6pm) as the sun started to melt the snow and the quick melting left it nothing like it was that morning!!!!
THE BUFFALO SNOWFALL!!!!!!!

Makes me sad that i have my snowboard up on Ebay right now. I just live so far away from reasonable conditions that it's not worth it anymore. I'd have to move 200 miles north to get to anywhere good. (sigh)

That WAS the whole point!!KyleRayner wrote:in early october though? i think thats the point
I have lived near Buffalo for 28 winters so yes I have seen worse, much worse, but never before in October. The 12th and 13th were record breaking snowfalls for October for single days; 8 inches and 14 inches respectively.
It would have been really no big deal or just expected if it was in Winter, but the leaves being on the trees and the heavy wet lake effect made the damage much worse than usual. I mean 300,000 people were left without power and some won't get it back till next weekend.
Along with all that, this whole storm was only in a 115 mile area. That is the beauty of lake effect, it is either hit or miss. I can drive 20 miles east and the grass is green and they have not seen snow at all this season.
I just hope this is not a sign of the upcoming winter. I like the minimal, not freezing windy winters, but we have not had a bad winter in a while so the area is due. UGH!!!
